far as i know i wont have to pay for tuition next year so things could be worse (after that she’ll be 18 and god knows what ill be expected to pay)

will have to pay for books/tools/laptops/trips wich will cost enough

Congrats!

Depending on your income (and that of your wife) your daughter might get a ‘prestatiebeurs’ after she turns 18 (depending on what kind of education she wants to pursue). Which can be supplemented with a very low interest, very long term loan. (That is if they don’ t change the system again)

The G.I. Bill is a program where the US government pays your tuition after a period of military service. I was mostly being facetious, but that is how I paid for my school.

Remember, paying for her college is an investment in your future. If she gets a good education and a good job, she can provide for you in old age in the lifestyle to which you are acustomed, or better!

We have five kids, only one didn’t want to go to college. We paid 100% of the kids expenses so they graduated debt free, it’s been really hard. Our youngest will be the last to graduate on Saturday, it’s going to be an epic bender.

We have no kids yet so I make hefty contributions to my 3 nieces’ college funds in hopes one of them can flip the off switch when it’s time.

Sounds like an interesting choice!

Most Dutch students I know have a loan ( including myself) , so I think you shoul d n’t feel bad about her needing one.

The interest is stupidly low (maybe even 0 for the first few years), and the pay-off term is 35 years, with pretty good conditions (no payment required in the first 2 years after graduation, no need to pay when you don’t have job)

I took out loans to go to school, then paid them off two years after graduation.

My secret? I got hit by a car while riding my bike and got a nice settlement.

I do not recommend this method to your daughter.

if we are poor enough theres a grant (dunno if we are poor enough tho)

but yeah... there will be somekind of aid available when we get there (i think..anyway)

next year i dont have to pay for tuition (if im lucky she might get the second year free too) just gotta pay for books/tools/trips laptop etc

it wont be cheap but i think we can manage that

its what she wants to do (and likes doing) wich means she’ll actually pay attention in class for a change.... sooo well... hard to argue that

i wont feel bad about need a loan... but if we can manage without... thats the goal

if she actually pushes on to university she’ll just have to get the loan tho... no way in hell can i front that bill lol

I’ve got three. Oldest is 16, the others are twins, 13. So I’ll have three in college at the same time for one year. Assuming they all go. I’ve been talking a lot about the Navy lately. (Not really.)

That’s cool, I hope they appreciate it. My aunt contributed a lot to my college fund but since I didn’t use it I had a nice downpayment on my house. I would not be living where I am now without her.
